If you’re reading this, I am going to assume that you are looking for the secret to losing weight quickly. I am going to go over that in this post and get you on your way to losing weight, getting healthier, and looking great.
One of the biggest things to consider when trying to lose weight is whether your diet is putting you in a caloric deficit or not. If your are eating more than you are using on a consistent basis, you simply are not going to lose weight.
Don’t worry, this isn’t the big secret. In fact it is widely known by most people that you need to take in less calories than you burn to lose weight. This is why people go on diets. It is really easy to start a new diet, it is very hard though to stick with the diet. It goes even further though, the problem lies not only in consistently eating less, but also in what you are eating.
That being said, let’s go over how different foods will affect your ability to lose weight. The main thing that you should concern yourself with when planning your diet is how your body responds to insulin.

[The Big business that is the food and diet industry don't want you to know the truth about losing weight. They only make money when we consume, not when we eat less. They spend around 10 billion dollars a year on advertising to keep us buying their products. This is why the world in general is getting fatter and their wallets are getting fatter also!]
Insulin is the key and it is also the big secret! Insulin controls the amount of sugar in the blood. Blood sugar or glucose is the fuel that keeps us running and functioning properly. Another key hormone is glucagon which works in opposite ways than insulin. Insulin decreases the amount of blood sugar and glucagon increases it. They work hand in hand, when insulin levels are up, glucagon levels are down, and vice versa.
Why is insulin so important? It is important because when blood sugar levels are high, it causes the production of insulin. Insulin will then cause your body to store the excess blood sugar as fat. This means that you will gain fat. If your insulin levels are decreased, which in turn means that glucagon levels are high, your body will then convert fat into blood sugar to be used as fuel. This will cause you to lose fat.
Think of it this way:
Insulin = Fat Storage
Glycagon = Fat Burning
You really don’t need to know the scientific ins and outs of these two hormones, you just need to know that food controls them both. This is why, what you eat and how that food controls your insulin, is the real secret to losing weight quickly.
How Does Food Effect Insulin Levels?
Here is a quick breakdown of how protein, carbs, and fat effect your blood sugar levels. Remember excess blood sugar causes your body to produce insulin. Insulin is the fat storage hormone which we obviously do not want when we are trying to lose weight.
Carbohydrates- They are converted into blood sugar by your body. Excess amounts cause your blood sugar levels to increase too high which stimulates insulin levels to rise. Insulin will cause your body to store the fat instead of burn it.
Protein- Stimulates the release of glucagon which counters the production of insulin. Excess blood sugar levels from carbohydrates can be countered with protein and your blood sugar levels will remain balanced.
Fat- Slows the absorption of food which will in turn slow the process of carbs turning into glucose. This like protein will help keep your blood sugar levels stabile.
So what does all of this mean? It means that if you eat too much carbohydrates, like sugars from soda, flavored coffee creamers, protein bars, etc., you will have a hard time losing weight.
The key is to eat a balanced diet and to not take in excess carbohydrates. Try to keep your carbs at around 40% or less of your total calories. If you make the bulk of your diet from animals, vegetables, and fruits, this will also help considerably. If it comes in a bottle, can, box, or wrapper, try and limit how much of it that you eat. It will probably have tons of sugar, preservatives, and other ingredients that either of us can pronounce! Most of the protein bars and drinks are just candy bars and sugar water. Try to eat natural and get your calories from real food, not drinks and stuff from wrappers.
So as stated above, you need to be at a caloric deficit in order to lose weight. If you also eat in a way to keep your blood sugar levels stabile, you will not only feel better and have more energy throughout the day, you will lose weight faster.
Brad Pilon from Eat Stop Eat is an incredible source of information, not only on insulin and fasting, but on diet and supplements as well. You can check out more from Brad at his Eat-Stop-Eat site.
This works incredibly well if you use intermittent fasting and then eat correctly in between fasts. The great thing about intermittent fasting is the ability to eat whatever you want, but if you do both of these, you will get leaner than ever!
So now that you know the secret to losing weight quickly, weight loss will no longer be an issue for you and you can stay in great shape no matter how old you are.

Spot on!
The state you REALLY want to avoid is hyperinsulinemia, where your insulin is chronically elevated. In contrast to the brief spikes you get after eating, here your body is CONSTANTLY storing fat away.
Hyperinsulinemia goes hand-in-hand with “modern diets” of heavily-processed foods. (Fructose in particular seems to be a prime suspect.) Your advice to eat Real Food is absolutely correct in that it tends to keep insulin levels down. (Good news: you can eat butter, cream, eggs, bacon, red meat and know that it is, indeed, health food now!)

keeping all the facts and figures in your head is mind boggling but Eat Stop Eat reduces it down to pretty simple ideas that anyone can use.
Funny thing everyone is scared of Carbs. yes be scared of the wrong carbs but eating the right ones gives your muscles energy, helps them develop and personally I drop body fat down to 8-9 % still eating carbs .. you could only drop carbs completely for only a few weeks at a time without going into ketosis

So true about calorie deficit being where it’s at. Like Raymond, I’m a huge fan of Eat Stop Eat. I like the fact that you can create an ongoing calorie deficit by mixing in really low calorie days, with days of higher calories (Weddings, Holidays, weekends, etc).
This makes so much more sense than following a strict day-to-day diet. I manage to stay lean and keep all my muscle mass by fasting twice per week. Just like Eat Stop Eat teaches. Hopefully you will reach a lot of people with this post…because it truly is an awesome recommendation.
Good Stuff!

Kelly,
Great review of insulin. Because I come from a background that includes a poor diet, I’ve taken things one step at a time. First I incorporate Eat Stop Eat. Then I started eating healthy during the work week allowing myself some sweets at night here and there. Now I’m trying to push a bit further and avoid refined sugars during the week. I’m trying to get to the final step where just about everything I eat is natural. Definitely challenging, but I’m nearing my goal.

Darrin,
When you look at most people’s diets and see what they eat, it’s no wonder there is an obesity problem! If people would just understand what they are doing to themselves by the food choices that they make. By the way, you are doing a great job with your blog! Keep it up!
Raymond,
Yeah you still need to eat carbs, you just have to watch what kind of carbs you are eating, especially if you are trying to drop weight. The average persons diet consists of so much of the wrong types of carbs and empty calories.
Eat stop eat sure does make things easier though! Intermittent fasting has been one of the best things that I have learned in a very long time. It’s something that I will most likely use as a tool to stay lean for the rest of my life.
George,
Thanks. I recently went to Las Vegas with my oldest son who was graduating from College and ate like a maniac. We had a great time and didn’t really hold back on food or drink! I came home weighing only three pounds more then when I left and within two weeks was down below where I had started from!
This wouldn’t of been possible without eat stop eat. I think it is one of the best tools out there for staying lean and keeping your muscle mass.
Dave,
I am the same way with my diet. I used eat stop eat to get close to where I wanted to be with my weight. Now I am improving my diet to get those last few pounds off. I figure that once I look like I want to look, then I can concentrate on eating better and actually being as healthy as I look!
